A flight out of JFK starts hours before takeoff for anyone in the Hudson Valley, and the first question is always the same: what time do we need to leave? Our car service from the Hudson Valley to JFK collects you at your door in Orange, Dutchess, Ulster, Rockland or Sullivan County and brings you to your terminal in Queens, with the departure time set around the real length of the drive from your town.
It is a transfer straight to JFK: no shared shuttle stops, no switch from a commuter train to the subway and AirTrain with suitcases in tow. Below are approximate weekday morning road times from nine towns across the valley, what they mean for the hour you leave, and how the return fits in.
These figures reflect typical weekday morning traffic. Treat them as a planning guide, not a promise: weekend mornings are often lighter, and a Friday afternoon or a holiday getaway can be much heavier.
| Starting town | County | Distance to JFK | Weekday morning time |
|---|---|---|---|
| New City | Rockland | about 49 miles | about 1 hour 33 minutes |
| Beacon | Dutchess | about 87 miles | about 1 hour 48 minutes |
| Monroe | Orange | about 71 miles | about 1 hour 49 minutes |
| Newburgh | Orange | about 90 miles | about 1 hour 50 minutes |
| Goshen | Orange | about 80 miles | about 1 hour 55 minutes |
| Poughkeepsie | Dutchess | about 92 miles | about 1 hour 57 minutes |
| Middletown | Orange | about 87 miles | about 2 hours 5 minutes |
| Kingston | Ulster | about 115 miles | about 2 hours 23 minutes |
| Monticello | Sullivan | about 111 miles | about 2 hours 23 minutes |
Two things stand out. Distance alone does not predict time: Newburgh is farther from JFK than Monroe in miles, yet the two come out almost even. And the upper valley adds up quickly; from Kingston or Monticello, the road time alone is well over two hours before any airport traffic.
The way to reach JFK from up here is the one that gets the departure hour right, so we treat that hour as part of the booking. The table gives you the middle of the plan. In front of it goes your airline’s arrival guidance; behind it, a cushion for the Van Wyck Expressway and the terminal construction. Then we adjust for the day and hour: weekday rush periods and holiday travel days get more room. Three examples show how much the starting town changes the answer:
We suggest a time when you book and confirm it with you; you can always ask for more cushion. On the morning itself, JFK’s official website posts current airport advisories, worth a look before you set an alarm.
Every route from the valley ends with a crossing from the Bronx into Queens, usually on the Whitestone Bridge or the Throgs Neck Bridge. Before that, the side of the Hudson you start on matters:
Many parkways in the region are closed to commercial vehicles, so a Sprinter may take another road than an SUV leaving from the same driveway. That is one more reason the vehicle is set at booking.
Weather is the other variable. On a rainy run from the Mid Hudson Valley, James M. wrote in his Google review that “the driver was on time and the ride to JFK Airport went very well”. Rain is exactly when the cushion in your departure time earns its keep.
We can start at a home, an office or a hotel anywhere in our area. In Orange County that includes the towns around our own garage in Monroe, neighboring Chester and Harriman, and Middletown and Goshen farther west. Across the river, we cover Poughkeepsie and Beacon, and in Ulster County we serve Kingston and the surrounding towns. Travelers from New City and nearby Rockland towns have the shortest run in the table.
With a departure hours before dawn, have the bags by the door and step outside at the booked time; if no vehicle is there, ring dispatch rather than waiting, so the booking is not written off as a no-show.
If you live in Yonkers, White Plains or elsewhere in Westchester, the distance is shorter and the roads differ, and we plan your run between JFK and Westchester on its own timing.
You can reserve the way down and the way home in one booking. The return does not run on a clock set in advance: we follow your inbound flight, and the chauffeur heads for the curb once you call with your bags in hand. Free waiting after international flights, the inside meet and greet and the options if a flight is diverted all follow our standard arrival routine at Kennedy.
On a journey this long, comfort and luggage space matter more than on a short hop. We cover couples and solo travelers: up to three with bags fit well in our smaller SUV. A family or a group of friends with full suitcases usually needs the Chevrolet Suburban, with room for six and their luggage. Larger groups stay together in a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter, seating 14 with space for everyone’s bags.
It depends on three things: your starting town, the vehicle and whether you book one way or both. Every quote is all-inclusive for the run as booked, so the bridge tolls into Queens are already in it; holiday dates carry a surcharge. Send your address and flight through the reservation form, or call, and we give you the exact fare for your town before you commit.
Yes. The start can be any address in our area, such as an office park, a hotel or a relative’s house, as long as it is in the booking. Tell us which entrance you will use, and be outside at the scheduled time so the chauffeur is not left searching a parking lot.
Yes, if both stops are planned at booking. A second address that was not discussed in advance counts as an additional stop and costs extra, and any tolls or parking it creates are added afterward.
Reserve the Hudson Valley to JFK leg through our reservation system with your home address, flight details and number of bags, and add the return in the same booking. If you would like help choosing the hour to leave, call (877) 811-8400; our dispatch team answers around the clock.
