With its setting between the Delaware and Hudson rivers, the region offers a number of sights for indulging in some unique sightseeing and learning more about a fascinating part of America’s history. Visit the impressive West Point Military Academy which boasts a museum dedicated to the events of 1775 to 1783, Washington’s Headquarters in Newburgh, where he spent more time than anywhere else during the Revolutionary War, and Knox’s Headquarters State Historic Site, where Generals Knox, Greene, and Gates were based.
Sample another slice of history by touring a selection of the county’s historic homes, which have been well-preserved for visitors to enjoy today. Wend your way through the beautiful countryside to Brick House, an 18th century estate that incorporates Colonial and Victorian-era furniture, Hill-Hold, a 1769 farmhouse complete with charming schoolhouse and smoke room on a historic working farm, and Crawford House, an ornate 1830s-built mansion originally home to shipping magnate Captain David Crawford.
