The warmer months arrive gently in the Hudson Valley, but once they settle in, everything begins to come back to life at once. Vines reach toward the sun after months of stillness, tasting rooms welcome visitors back onto outdoor patios, and long drives along the river feel less like a plan and more like something that happens without much planning.

By the time May comes around, the landscape feels alive again. Fresh growth lines the vineyard rows, hills turn a deeper green, and afternoons stretch just enough to make you forget about the clock. It’s the kind of time of year that invites you to slow down, follow the road, and see where it leads.

When the Vineyards Come Back to Life

Unlike the harvest period, which draws larger crowds and a faster pace, spring offers something more personal. Early in the season, vineyards begin their growing cycle, and that shift becomes visible on every visit.

At Benmarl Winery in Marlboro, vines climb gently along the hillside, opening up to wide views of the Hudson River. Visitors gather on the terrace with a glass in hand, watching the light shift across the valley while conversations carry easily from one moment to the next.

Further north, Millbrook Vineyards & Winery opens wide lawns where guests spread out blankets, walk between tastings, and move easily from one spot to another. Nothing feels rushed, and each visit becomes more about time spent together than the number of wines sampled.

At Brotherhood Winery in Washingtonville, the experience takes on a different character. Stone cellars and historic buildings create a setting that feels rooted in history, where each tasting connects to something that has been part of the region for generations.

Patios Fill, Glasses Pour, and Time Slows Down

As temperatures rise, the experience moves outdoors. Patios fill with small groups sharing bottles, couples settle into shaded tables, and friends move from one tasting to the next without watching the time.

At Whitecliff Vineyard in Gardiner, the view of the Shawangunk Ridge becomes part of the experience. Guests walk through the property, pause for photos, and return to their table as if nothing needs to move any faster.

Nearby, Robibero Family Vineyards brings a more social energy. Live music carries across the property, conversations overlap from table to table, and each gathering feels connected to the next.

This time of the year also introduces lighter pairings—crisp whites, rosés, fresh cheeses, and small plates that reflect the season. The flavors feel brighter, and the atmosphere follows.

The Road Between Wineries Matters Just as Much

Exploring Hudson Valley wine country rarely follows a fixed plan. One stop leads to another, a recommendation turns into a detour, and what begins as a short visit often becomes an entire afternoon.

Routes along Route 9, Route 44/55, and the scenic roads near New Paltz and Cold Spring connect wineries in a way that feels easy rather than scheduled. Along the way, farm stands, bakeries, and small towns offer reasons to pause, step out, and extend the day without thinking twice.

Because of that, many visitors choose wine tours to move between wineries without interrupting the flow of the day. Instead of focusing on directions or timing, the experience stays centered on conversation, tasting, and everything happening around you.

Beyond the Glass: Towns, Walks, and Small Discoveries

Wine may draw people to the Hudson Valley, but it rarely remains the only part of the day. In Beacon, visitors often pair a morning tasting with time along Main Street, moving between galleries, coffee shops, and small storefronts. In Cold Spring, the day continues along the river, where wide views of the Hudson invite you to slow down and take it all in.

Even a simple stop at a roadside farm stand becomes part of the experience, with fresh produce, local honey, and baked goods adding another layer to the day. Everything connects—the vineyards, the towns, the roads, and the people you share it with.

Why Spring Feels Like the Right Moment

Visiting the Hudson Valley during this time feels easy. The season hasn’t reached its peak crowds, the weather invites you to spend time outdoors, and every vineyard carries a sense of renewal after the stillness of winter. You don’t need a packed schedule. A few stops, good company, and an open afternoon create everything you need.

Because right now, it’s not about checking off locations. It’s about finding a place to sit, pouring another glass, and realizing there’s no reason to rush the day forward.

Snow rests on the vines. The air feels still, not silent. After the holidays pass and traffic slows, the cold season brings a calmer rhythm to wine country. This is the time for lingering flights, unhurried conversations, and vineyard visits that feel personal.

The vines may be bare, but what’s in the glass speaks louder—bold reds, crisp whites, and seasonal releases that rarely make it to spring. If you haven’t explored the vineyards this time of year, it might become your favorite way to start the calendar.

Explore the Oldest Cellars in the Country at Brotherhood Winery

Founded in 1839, Brotherhood Winery brings history to life with underground stone cellars that stay open year-round. Walking past centuries-old barrels, you’ll find a space that feels more like a museum than a tasting room—but without the glass walls and signs. Their winter wine list includes dry Rieslings, bold reds, and a warm spiced blend that fits the season. Guided cellar tours are available, and the indoor tasting space remains cozy through the colder months.

Why it works in January:

✔ Year-round cellar tours with real history

✔ Seasonal red flights in a warm indoor setting

✔ Easy drive from the city, ideal as a first stop

Take in the Scenic Valley Views at Millbrook Vineyards

One of the Hudson Valley’s most respected wineries, Millbrook sits high above snow-covered rows. In colder months, that view belongs to you. Inside the tasting room, sunlight cuts across long tables and curated pours. Their Tocai Friulano and Pinot Noir pair beautifully with the season’s beauty. Staff take their time with each guest, and visitors rarely feel like part of a crowd.

Best Features This Time of Year:

✔ Heated hilltop tasting room with uninterrupted views

✔ Well-balanced flights of white and red wines

✔ Great fit for romantic days or small private tours

Enjoy Small-Batch Reds by the Fire at Robibero Family Vineyards

Robibero doesn’t overdo anything—and that’s what makes it right for this season. A fire glows inside their tasting barn, and the seating feels more like a living room than a venue. Their small-batch red blends offer depth without pretense. On weekends, you’ll often find local snacks or light pairings that round out the experience without requiring a reservation.

Seasonal highlights:

✔ Laid-back setting with a real wood-burning fireplace

✔ Great for groups who want a relaxed afternoon

✔ Consistently open, no need to over-plan

Taste Award-Winning Reds at Whitecliff Vineyard

With a view of the Shawangunk Ridge and a reputation for quality, Whitecliff balances sustainability with standout varietals like Gamay Noir. Inside, the staff guide tastings without a script. Glasses are filled with care, allowing conversation to lead the experience. This is a winery that attracts people who appreciate the process—especially when things slow down in the off-season.

What makes it ideal this season:

✔ Heated indoor space with one-on-one service

✔ Close enough to combine with other vineyards nearby

✔ Focused flights for serious wine fans

Escape to a Rustic Hilltop at Quartz Rock Vineyard

Perched above the valley, the Quartz feels like a hidden spot—especially in midwinter, when the hill is quiet, and the tasting room is relaxed. Their wine list leans into the season with dessert styles, hearty reds, and occasional port options. Guests linger here. The setting isn’t showy, but it’s peaceful—and sometimes that’s all you want.

Seasonal reasons to stop here:

✔ Rustic hilltop location with fewer visitors

✔ Port-style reds and small-batch dessert wines

✔ Pairs well with larger vineyard stops earlier in the day

Private Transportation Makes the Difference

Winter wine tours call for more than just planning ahead. Icy roads, tight timing, and rural routes make professional transportation services an obvious choice—especially when you want to enjoy the experience without interruptions. The Lincoln Aviator and Mercedes-Benz Sprinter are ideal for couples or small groups, offering a warm ride between vineyards—no parking stress, no GPS, no driving in unpredictable weather. Travelers count on our fleet to focus on what matters: the views, the pours, and the atmosphere.

Plan a January Wine Day That’s Actually Worth It

There’s something about this time of year that makes a slower day feel more meaningful. When the noise fades, and the tasting rooms feel more personal, you get more than just wine—you get attention and a reason to stay a little longer.

To plan your wine tasting, call (877) 811-8400 or email majestic@mtslimousine.com. Majestic Transportation Services & Limo, Inc. will manage the route while you enjoy the tasting, the view, and everything in between.

The Hudson Valley’s rolling vineyards, crisp summer breezes, and award-winning wines make it a prime destination for a relaxing day trip or weekend getaway. But why not elevate the experience? A vineyard day, the Majestic way, means more than sipping Chardonnay—it’s about indulging in the journey itself.

Why Hudson Valley is the Ultimate Wine Day Destination

Just 90 minutes from NYC, the Hudson Valley blends rustic charm with serious winemaking chops. You’ll find everything from family-run farms to elegant estates. For example, Milea Estate Vineyard in Staatsburg is celebrated for its award-winning Cabernet Franc and sweeping views, while Benmarl Winery in Marlboro—America’s oldest vineyard—is famous for its Baco Noir and river vistas.

Then there’s Brotherhood Winery in Washingtonville, the country’s oldest operating winery, offering underground wine cave tours. If you’re seeking a laid-back, family-friendly stop, Robibero Winery in New Paltz pairs small-batch wines with wood-fired pizzas and Shawangunk Ridge views.

Stress-Free Sipping Starts with the Right Ride

Hiring a private car or limo isn’t just about style — it’s about streamlining the entire day. No GPS hassles. No parking worries. Just door-to-door service, chilled interiors, and a chauffeur who knows the backroads better than your map app.

Planning a bachelorette, birthday, or couples’ escape? Consider upgrading to a Sprinter van or luxury SUV — roomy enough for your group and those extra bottles of rosé you’ll want to bring home.

Majestic Transportation Services specializes in customized Hudson Valley wine tours. We know which vineyards work best for morning tastings, who has the most scenic lunch patio, and when to hit certain wineries before the tour buses arrive. Our car and limousine services adapt to your vibe — whether you’re seeking Insta-worthy views or sommelier-approved pours.

What a Majestic Wine Tour Looks Like

A typical wine tour can include:

Pickup from your home, hotel, or train station

Stops at 2–4 hand-picked wineries based on your preferences

Built-in time for lunch, photo ops, and vineyard strolls

Safe, luxurious return transport at day’s end

Want to include cider tastings, a sunset dinner, or live music venues? Just ask. Many Hudson Valley wineries host weekend events, and we can build your route around them. August, in particular, is packed with opportunities:

On August 16–17, enjoy the Putnam County Wine & Music Fest in Carmel with 40+ wineries, food trucks, and family-friendly fun.

On August 17, join the Millbrook Vineyards Wine Run 5K—a scenic jog through the vines, rewarded with a wine pour at the finish.

Wrap up the month at the Hudson Valley Wine & Music Festival on August 30 in Newburgh, where waterfront tastings meet live bands.

A Taste Beyond the Glass: Pairings and Experiences

The Hudson Valley isn’t just about the wine—it’s about how you enjoy it. Many vineyards are expanding their offerings beyond tastings. Imagine sipping a crisp Riesling during a yoga class on the lawn, catching a jazz quartet at sunset, or exploring local art galleries curated inside tasting rooms. These immersive pairings are increasingly popular among summer visitors looking to blend leisure, culture, and community.

Some wineries also host food pop-ups—like wood-fired pizza trucks or oyster bars—so your palate is constantly surprised. And for those who love to explore with intention, wine-and-cheese flights, blind tastings, and vineyard education tours add extra depth to your journey. It’s these thoughtful touches that turn an afternoon outing into an unforgettable experience.

Comfort in Every Detail: Your Travel Matters Too

What truly sets a vineyard day apart isn’t just the views or vintages—it’s the journey between them. A smooth, stylish ride allows you to savor every moment without distraction. Whether your group is small and intimate or a festive gathering of friends, the right vehicle quietly enhances the experience.

Some guests prefer the quiet privacy of a sedan, ideal for couples tracing the wine trail at their own pace. Others enjoy the camaraderie of a luxury sprinter van or stretch limo, offering space, style, and soft lighting that feels just right after a day of indulgence. With climate control, privacy glass, and flexible scheduling, transportation becomes an extension of the day, not just the means to get from one point to another.

It’s not just about what you see. It’s how comfortably and confidently you move through the Hudson Valley, making every detail feel like part of the experience.

A well-organized wine tour ensures a memorable and stress-free experience. Start by selecting a mix of wineries to visit based on your preferences, whether you enjoy robust reds, crisp whites, or unique blends. Most wineries require advance reservations for tastings, especially for larger groups, so booking ahead is essential.

Organizing a wine tour is quite a fun process, especially if you start a few weeks ahead and reserve enough time to properly research the wineries on your list. However, there's more that goes into planning wine tasting tours than drinking wine, and you need to be prepared. If you are ready to surprise your friends with a day of exploring the fantastic wine world, here are our top 3 tips for planning the best wine tour for your friend group:

#1 Choose a Region to Visit

Start out by narrowing down the region you want to visit. There are dozens of amazing wine regions both in and outside of the United States, each with its grape varieties depending on the local soil and climate.

While visiting one of the French or Spanish wine regions is a dream come true for any wine lover, you will be happy to know that our country has its own great locations that people travel to see. Embark on a journey from the sun-drenched vineyards of California to the grand vistas of Colorado, the tranquil beauty of Idaho, the lively wine scenes of New York, and the picturesque Bucks County Wine Trail in Pennsylvania. Discover a wide array of exquisite destinations for your wine exploration adventures.

#2 Ask Your Friends What Type of Wine They Prefer

Once you have settled on a wine region, it's time to research the local wineries. Some might only have specialty wine like Pinot Noir or Merlot, while others will give you a comprehensive tour of whites, reds, and even bubblies.

In order to set up the best wine tour for everyone's taste, we recommend that you ask your friends beforehand what their favorite wine is. Alternatively, you can ask them what type of wine they don't like too. If you want to surprise them with this wine tour, you can throw a wine tasting party to learn more about their taste without giving away your plans.

#3 Plan Your Transportation

Even if you don't plan on drinking a lot during this day and only have 1-2 glasses, it's best not to drive yourself to these locations. This way, you won't feel pressured to cut down your alcohol intake, and you can just relax and enjoy the view between stops. Booking a ride with a professional car service company is a great option for transportation since they often organize wine tours themselves and will put in extra care to ensure you have a comfortable journey.

Let's be honest, no one wants to taste the wine and then have to spit it out. Choosing to book a wine tour will make sure that no one has to worry about being the designated driver. Your group will have a professional chauffeur who will be there to do all the heavy lifting for you. In fact, you can also communicate with the ground transportation company to set up a personalized travel plan that includes stops for all your favorite wineries.

Wine tasting isn’t just for California. Take a tour of the Hudson Valley’s magnificent selection of wineries and lose yourself in picturesque scenery, crisp fall weather, and a huge range of magnificent wines to suit every taste.

Here’s our pick of the 6 best:

Brotherhood Winery, Washingtonville

Boasting the distinguished accolade of “oldest continuously operating winery in the US”, any tasting tour of the Hudson Valley simply must include Brotherhood Winery. In operation since 1839, the winery offers all the historic charm you’d expect along with a range of fun events all year round. Throughout October, celebrate the grape harvest at one of the winery’s famous Grape Stomping events every Saturday and Sunday, culminating in a “Brewtoberfest” event on October 20, complete with live music, German-themed food, and a selection of Brotherhood’s wines and hard ciders.

Palaia Winery, Highland Mills

Staying in Orange County, just a quick 15-minute drive will take you to Palaia Winery and Meadery, where you’ll find a super-chilled vibe with live music year-round and a selection of 8 delectable wines that pair perfectly with the food served at Palaia’s specialty weekend café. As well as wines, you’ll find a range of meads and cocktails on the tasting room menu in case you feel like mixing it up!

Clearview Vineyard, Warwick

This picturesque spot provides the perfect opportunity to sit back and relax on the porch or in the cozy tasting room and sample Clearview’s selection of award-winning wines. Enjoy live music each weekend, tours of the winery, and even wine pairing appetizers on Saturdays and Sundays. Clearview was even recently named one of the Top 25 Vineyards in the US by Travel+Leisure Magazine!

Whitecliff Vineyard and Winery, Gardiner

Whitecliff has been in operation for over 30 years, specializing in artisanal, vegan wines and the vineyard is home to over 20 different grape varieties. Take a tour to discover more about this unique operation, which is the first geo-thermal winery in the whole of the Hudson Valley. The wines themselves aren’t to be sniffed at, having won multiple awards including Best White in Show at the San Francisco International Wine Competition. While the weather is still kind, take a glass outside to the deck and enjoy the beautiful views across the Shawangunk Mountains.

Glorie Farm Winery, Malboro

This self-styled “boutique” winery has been in operation since 2004, offering a variety of red, white, and fruit wines to sample in the stunning tasting room. Offering picturesque views right across the Hudson Valley, you can sit outside on the lawn in the warmer months then cozy up in the tasting room when the weather turns cooler. The winery is renowned for its Cabernet Franc, or you can enjoy one of the fall specialties on offer such as the pumpkin spice-infused white wine, Rumple Pumpkin, or Mutiny hard apple cider.

Millbrook Vineyards and Winery, Millbrook

The New York Times has dubbed Millbrook “the Hudson Valley’s flagship winery”, and it’s not difficult to see why. The winery has recently been nominated for Wine Enthusiast’s American Winery of the Year award, the first and only winery in the Hudson Valley to be selected for such an accolade. They produce approximately 15,000 cases of wine annually on the 130-acre estate, and tours and tastings are offered year-round, along with in-depth Reserve tastings of a selection of premium wines from May through December.

Wherever your taste buds take you, Majestic Transportation Services will get you there in style. Whether you’re tasting in a group or on a romantic tour for two, you’ll roll up to every winery in VIP style, without the hassle of choosing a designated driver or navigating your way around the winding roads of the Valley. We’ll even help plan your own custom itinerary, so you’ll get the perfect trip.

To get you a little taste of this amazing getaway we made a selection of 5 Hudson Valley Wineries you have to visit:

NOSTRANO VINEYARDS

The new arrival, Nostrano Vineyards, is owned by Nic and Kayleigh Bozzo and opened its doors in 2014. Nic is a fourth-generation farmer who inherited his grandfather’s apple farm in 2009 in Milton, New York while being armed with a degree in landscape architecture. In 2010, he began planting three varieties of seedless table grapes, pinot noir, cabernet franc and riesling, at the vineyard.

In 2014, he included three more varieties of seedless table grapes and in 2015, he planted an acre of the category pinot gris. Nowadays, the vineyard is currently producing pinot noir, riesling, a baco noir blend, cabernet franc and an unoaked chardonnay. Their recent releases are the 2014 estate cabernet franc and a 2015 estate riesling. The owners host live music at the estate a few times a month from May through October, a farm-to-table dinner in August and a Fall Festival and marketplace every October.

TOUSEY WINERY

Tousey Winery has been a family-run enterprise from the beginning. Ray Tousey made his dream come true when he took the magnificent family-owned property and turned it into a vineyard. Today, Tousey is managed and owned by Ben and Kimberly Peacock. Kimberly, Ray’s daughter, was the legitimate choice to supervise the enterprise along with her husband, Ben, whose wine knowledge and business expertise help create the perfect team.

blend of local Hudson Valley roots and European sensibility. The winery produces pinot noir, riesling, cabernet franc, a dry rosé, chardonnay and other three proprietary blends under its Scarlet Tiger brand. And don’t forget to try the estate bottled pinot noir, as wine enthusiasts consider it as one of the best 24 red wines to try from New York.

BROTHERHOOD WINERY

If you’re a history connoisseur and a wine aficionado, you can’t miss Brotherhood Winery, the oldest American winery, in operation since 1836. It is told that the cellars were excavated by hand, in the 19th century, when French Huguenot Jean Jaques started planting grapes on his recently purchased land. The most recent owners of the winery include Chilean winemakers who began a massive restoration and renovation program at Brotherhood, that includes vineyard acquisitions, equipment upgrades, a facility remodeling and the planting of new vines.

The winery still dazzles guests with tours of the most interesting corners of this historical site, which has nowadays become a delightful place for private events, weddings, balls, and the other similar events. The vineyard produces varieties such as chardonnay, merlot, New York premium cabernet, riesling and much more. They also offer an extraordinary list of sparkling and dessert wines including ruby port, ice wine and cream sherry.

BALDWIN VINEYARDS

An establishment well-known for its Strawberry, Wine & Chocolate festival in May, Baldwin’s 35-acre vineyard generates some of the most interesting dessert and fruit-forward wine in the whole country. Since 1982, Patricia and Jack Baldwin, the owners, have been working continuously to create a micro-winery that offers a large array of different styles of wine for the perceptive palate. The best sellers of this winery include their dessert wine, made from black raspberries, and also Anthony’s vintage, also presenting hints of raspberry.

MILBROOK VINEYARDS & WINERY

Milbrook Vineyards is owned by prominent wine enthusiasts, John and Kathe Dyson, who own other additional wineries, including Pebble Ridge Vineyards & Wine Estates. Milbrook is John’s first wine venture; it was also the first vineyard in the Hudson River region of New York entirely dedicated to the production of vinifera grapes. This vineyard produces pinot noir, chardonnay, riesling, cabernet franc and tocai friulano, an Italian grape variety.
