Here’s How to Make the Most of Your 4th of July Celebrations in New York

It’s going to be summer again real soon, and you know what that means: Independence Day is coming around too! There will definitely be plenty of events and activities commemorating this special occasion, but if you’ll rather stay at home and just catch up on a couple of hours of sleep, that’s totally alright. However, for those looking to join in a little more action, you can always make it a day out with friends and family. In fact, we’ve got some great suggestions for you right down below, so just continue reading:

Enjoy a Beautiful Fireworks Display

Forget the ones you set off one by one on your own. When it comes to a large fireworks display, we’re talking about grandeur on another level. There’s truly something magical and mesmerizing about a beautiful firework show, and luckily for us, there are a few occasions that merit wonderful pyrotechnics displays year-round.

When it comes to a truly spectacular display, there’s none to rival Macy's Fourth of July fireworks in the whole country, so it’s something you’ll want to witness, even if that means watching from a screen. This year, the festivities is heading south to barges around the Brooklyn Bridge. For a good vantage point, you’ll want to snag strategic positions around lower Manhattan and Brooklyn neighborhoods closest to the bridge.

Venue: Around Brooklyn Bridge (Pier 17)

Time & Date: Fireworks start around 9:20 (4 July)

Host a BBQ Party

Who doesn’t love a good steak? Well, other than dining out or using your kitchen, there’s always the option of holding a cookout or barbecue. However, not everyone has their own patch of grass to heat a grill on, and that’s where public spaces come into play. If you’re thinking to invite just about everyone you know, you’ll want to find a spot that can comfortably accommodate everyone.

A great spot to grill and barbecue is at Central Park, and you’re in luck, because these two activities are only permitted a total of 3 days in a year, and one of them is the 4th of July. Do take note that propane gas is strictly prohibited. If you’ll like more food choices on the go, you can always stop by the Whole Foods closest to Sheep Meadow at 10 Columbus Circle.

Celebrate in Nature

There’s more than one way to cool off, and a popular summer choice includes taking a trip to a lake or beach. You won’t be the only one with that idea, so if you’re not into crowds, you’ll need to add a little more traveling and researching time. Also, unless you’re looking to develop a tan, do remember to lather on some sun block while you’re out under the rays.

Dress Up in Red, White and Blue

It’ll definitely be a look, and it’s one that you can easily pull off on Independence Day. After all, it’s America’s three iconic colors, and you’ll be surprised at just how easy it is to incorporate into our outfits when we think small. For instance, you don’t have to necessarily use all three colors. Just stick to two if that makes things easier for you. Otherwise, there are also tons of tutorials and guides online that you can refer to.

Witness One of America’s Iconic Food Competitions

Have you ever witnessed a live eating competition? Well, if you haven’t, you’re in for a real treat if you head on over to Coney Island on the 4th of July for Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest. You’ll want to get there early even though no tickets are needed because there’s always a huge crowd every year. Even if you can’t see the stage from where you’re standing, there’s still the option of seeing it from a Jumbotron screen. Who knows, you might feel like eating a ton of hot dogs yourself once the contestants get started.

Venue: Corner of Surf & Stillwell Avenue, Coney Island, Brooklyn

Time & Date: 10L30 a.m. to 3 p.m. (4 July)

Admission: FREE

Spend Time with Your Loved Ones

If you haven’t been spending time with your family, now’s the perfect chance for you to do so. After all, most people are off for the day, and you can always host an intimate gathering at your place where everyone can catch up with one another. Otherwise, you can also book a spot to dine out at and just indulge in good food and good company.

Maison Premier serves up classic American food as well as a truly decadent absinthe and oysters bar. They have the largest absinthe selection in the United States, and there’s also more than 30 oyster varieties to choose from. If you’re looking for an eatery that hits all the right spots, you’ve already found the right one.

Decorate With Festive Crafts

There are only so few occasions where we see fit to decorate the outside and inside of our homes, and one of them is definitely Independence Day. Without a doubt, the American flag is the most common decoration piece, but you can always give it a contemporary twist by investing in streamer and banners in the nation’s three iconic colors instead. If you’re hosting a get together at home, you can also use decorative 4th of July plates, cups and napkins.

Plan a Getaway

Free your mind and relax your body on a refreshing vacation. Even though Independence Day falls on a Thursday this year, you’ll be able to enjoy a full four-day vacation if you take the Friday off. You needn’t plan anything extravagant since the main purpose is to get away for a little while. However, you’ll need to remember that this will be a peak traveling period, so do your planning and bookings in advance if at all possible.

To relax even further, why not take a ride with our luxurious Westchester car service? Traffic will understandably be worse during this period, and the last thing you’ll want is to be stuck in it when all you want to do is make the most of your day. You can rest assured that our chauffeurs are some of the best on the road, so don’t hesitate to get in touch with us for more information today. Or you can book our New York car service online.
