Follow These 8 Tips to Stay Healthy This Summer While Traveling

Summer has finally arrived! There’s definitely something inviting about warmer temperatures that just begs for us to stay outdoors a lot longer. With such great weather, it’s inevitable that most of our thoughts tend to revolve around the likes of outdoors BBQs, pool parties and the occasional getaway. However, you’ll need to remember that constantly exposing yourself under the hot sun does come with health risks such as dehydration and sunburns, so you’ll want to pay more attention to what you should and shouldn’t do while traveling to make the most of your summer.

One great way to stay cool and avoid excessive overheating is booking our Westchester car service and letting our reliable chauffeurs drive you to where you need to go. Just sit back and relax in our comfortable, air-conditioned vehicles and enjoy a truly wonderful ride experience when you choose our New York car service

Summer is a great time to get outdoors and meet up with others, so let’s all stay healthy with the tips we’ve provided down below:

Stay Hydrates

If you’re not already consuming at least 64 ounces (about 8 cups) of water daily, you’ll better get to it. After all, it’s a lot hotter in summer compared to every other season, and if you intend to spend a considerable amount of time outdoors, you’ll want to prevent getting dehydrated and feeling faint.

A great way to ensure that your body is constantly flooded with water is by carrying around a water bottle that can easily be refilled. However, we do understand that it’s actually a bulky option. Since it’s important to stay properly hydrated in summer, you might just want to invest in a collapsible water bottle that can fit into your pocket instead.

Dress Appropriately

It’s always a good idea to cover up as much bare skin as necessary in order to avoid painful sunburns, but if you’re looking to achieve a fantastic tan, you should at least invest in light, breathable materials such as cotton and linen. In fact, if you intend to work out outdoors under the sun, you can also choose to wear workout clothes that are designed to wick away sweat more easily from our bodies.

Another idea to consider is loose clothing as it creates space for air to flow more freely between your body and clothes. If you foresee yourself traveling or moving about under the hot sun, you should also avoid dark colors as they will increase heat absorption.

Wear Sunscreen

You can never have enough sunscreen, and this is especially true when you’re spending more time traveling outdoors. Sweating and activities that involve getting in and out of the water frequently also means that you’ll need to reapply your sunscreen more often than not to avoid getting sunburned. To make the most of your summer, do remember to reapply whenever you need to and not wait till it’s too late.

Boost Your Immune System

Even if you’re in the pink of health, it’s still entirely possible for you to catch someone else’s germs. After all, if you’re looking to visit or frequent more places in summer, you’ll need to contend with crowds of strangers whose health conditions are unknown to you.

With this in mind, it’s good to get in a dose of Vitamin C on a daily basis to boost your immune system. If you’re not into the idea of supplements in the form of pills and tablets, you can still get enough nutrients from consuming fruits, whether in its actual form or from juices and smoothies.

Choose Healthier BBQs

Not every single BBQ session needs to involve the liberal use of BBQ sauce on everything. In fact, why not opt for freshly made sauces with less processed sugar instead? If you’re willing to expand your palette, you’ll soon come to realize that grilled food can be as delicious when taken without any sauce at all.

To give your BBQ meal a nutrient boost, you can also add more fruits and vegetables to the grill. Favorites like corn and eggplant are pretty common ingredients, but you can also add in a generous serving of grilled fruits such as bananas and pineapples to zest things up.

Enjoy a Delightful and Healthy Breakfast

One of the best ways to start your day is to indulge in a hearty breakfast, and it’s even more important to do so in summer. In order to avoid feeling faint and exhausted when traveling or moving about outdoors under the hot sun, you’ll want to ensure that your tummy is happily full.

Not only is it important to start our day with a hearty breakfast, you’ll also want to eat right, and that means incorporating a good balance of proteins, healthy fats and fibre onto your plate. If you’re not into the idea of solids for your first meal, you should still drink a juice or smoothie to give your body that needed energy boost.

Exercise Daily

Although it’s important to exercise regularly weekly, it’s even more important that we do so correctly. After all, you’re in it to remain healthy and fit and not to keep sustaining injuries. If you’re planning to exercise during your travels, you’ll also want to avoid exercising outdoors during the hottest hours of the day as that can be more detrimental to your overall health.

Water sports and activities are definitely the highlights of summer, but if that’s not your cup of tea, there’s still plenty of other outdoor land exercises to enjoy. For those intending to take advantage of the warm outdoor weather, you’ll also want to use some precooling techniques such as draping a towel around your neck to avoid overheating while exercising.

Avoid Alcoholic Beverages

Without a doubt, everyone should be drinking responsibly (and that means moderately) at all times. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with indulging in a few alcoholic drinks while traveling, but you’ll need to remember that consuming alcohol in hot weather actually further depletes our water stores and speeds up dehydration.
